Using the PAX Charge Tip option

In the 3.100 release, a checkbox was added in the PAX-Setting area called Display tip prompt on PAX device. We also separated that functionality from the Credit Card settings Add Gratuity (CC Tips) checkbox. This overhaul allows merchants to charge tips post-finalization from a PAX without using the device or prompting for a tip during the finalization of the sale.

To set up PAX Tips in Options of POSExpress

  1. Go to Tools | Options | Credit Card/Gift Card/ACH.

  2. Select Credit Card. The Credit Card screen displays.

  3. At the very top of the screen, select the Add Gratuity (CC TIPS)? checkbox.

NOTE: This only works with the CPS CREDIT CARD ENGINE 3.6, so make sure you have that section completed with the necessary information.

  4. Scroll down to the PAX-Setting section and if you haven’t set up to use the PAX device, have a Club Prophet support agent enter all the needed information in this section.

  5. To enable the tip prompt display on a  PAX device, select the Display tip prompt on PAX device checkbox.

  1. Select Save and Close.

BEST PRACTICE: You should immediately close the software and login again for the changes to take place.

Adding tips using the PAX device scenarios

With these settings, tips can be added to the sale in several ways:

  • Use the TIPS button in the Sales screen of POS before finalizing the sale.  The PAX will NOT prompt for a tip and then it will allow that tip to be adjusted using the CHARGE TIPS button in the POS.

  • Finalizing the sale, adding a tip on the PAX device during finalization.  This allows the tip to be adjusted using the CHARGE TIPS button in the POS.

  • Finalizing the sale without adding a tip on the PAX or using the TIPS button in the POS.  The tip can be added to the sale via the CHARGE TIPS button and adjusted there.

  • If the sale uses a card on file, the tip can be added before or after the sale is finalized, like the above steps, but the process is done using the CCM and the PAX is NOT prompted during the process of adjusting the tip.

  • If the sale is a split sale with multiple payment methods being used, the different splits of the sale can be tipped using any combination of the above variations and can prompt both the PAX and the CCM if the sale is split into the two different processing areas.

Adding tips using the PAX device scenarios with the CHARGE TIPS OPTION disabled

  • You can add a tip using the TIPS button before the sale is finalized still. The PAX DEVICE WILL NOT PROMPT for a tip from the device.

  • These behaviors are mirrored in the CCM, you can add a pre-finalized tip using the POS and the TIPS button, but without the Charge Tips button, you cannot edit or adjust it.

Note: If you turn the CHARGE TIPS back on, and the day has not been closed out, you can adjust and tip on all of the sales that were made while CHARGE TIPS were turned off.
